About This Book
August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face
Riya Bopanna, Grade 4 –
“My name is August. I won’t describe what I look like. Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably worse”
August is a boy born with a facial deformity causing him to stand out from the crowd. Wherever he goes, people turn around and stare at him. Unlike most kids he is home-schooled, that way he does not have to face other kids. But all of a sudden things start to change. August joins a middle school! Whether his family fights the bullying problems or not, August and his friends learn to battle the odds with kindness and loyalty.
Wonder is a moving story revealing the life of an eleven-year-old boy who looks different. I like this book because it expresses feelings. I noticed that the author R J Palacio has used each chapter to state each of the character’s point of view. Wonder has the power to move hearts and change minds.
“You can’t blend in when you were born to stand out” – A quote from Wonder that I like.
